Owl AheadBefore relying on an alert
Never rely on Owl Ahead as your only source of school-zone information. Posted signs, signals, road conditions, official directions, and applicable law control. Do not troubleshoot or interact with the app while driving.
Location permission
Choose “Allow While Using App” when iOS asks. Owl Ahead does not need Always permission. If access was denied, open iOS Settings, find Owl Ahead, and allow location while using the app. Precise Location improves proximity estimates.
Background and Lock Screen
Free monitoring pauses when you switch apps or lock the phone and resumes when Owl Ahead returns to the foreground. Premium can continue an active session in the background and can show Live Status on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Force-quitting the app ends monitoring; reopen it to begin a fresh session.
“GPS signal degraded”
This means the latest location fix is too old or not accurate enough for a dependable proximity estimate. Move to an area with a clearer sky view, confirm Precise Location is on, and give the device time to acquire a better fix. The iOS Simulator may report degraded GPS unless a location or GPX route is being simulated.
Alerts and CarPlay
Alert tones and haptics are available during free foreground monitoring. Spoken alerts, speed warnings, and CarPlay require Premium. Audio can follow the active iPhone, Bluetooth, or CarPlay route. CarPlay availability also depends on Apple’s managed Driving Task entitlement and a compatible vehicle.
Premium billing
Purchases are processed by Apple. A 14-day trial starts only after you confirm an eligible subscription and converts to the selected plan unless canceled before the trial ends. Use Manage Subscription in Owl Ahead Settings or your Apple Account subscription settings to cancel or change plans. For purchase or refund issues, contact Apple Support.
